Short / Beginner walks
(up to 5km / 3miles)
If you have never tried rambling but want to find out what it’s about and give it a go, these are the walks to get you started. We will get out in the open which is a great way to improve your general fitness and boost your mental well-being. Not sure of your ideal pace or distance? Come and ramble with us to help you find out. Find out about equipment and opportunities to develop your skills.

“Absolute Beginner” walks are over flatter, more stable terrain (such as park paths) and require no specialist equipment – just comfortable clothing and footwear (eg trainers). They will be at the pace of the group. We will look at the benefits of walking and talk about motivation and goals.

“Get into Rambling” walks will be on some public footpaths crossing through fields and woods and will give a taste of what it’s all about. Hiking shoes or boots are preferable due to the likelihood of some mud or vegetation under foot and uneven terrain. We will learn about the Countryside Code and other important features such as hills, gates and stiles and how to handle them. Some simple equipment is required such as a small rucksack. We will talk about how to keep ourselves safe in the outdoor environment. The pace will be to suit the group.
